My heart has been heavy seeing so many children hurt in Gaza. I do not claim to understand all the politics of this conflict. What is clear to any human being with a heart is that innocent people—especially children—are suffering.
Allah knows fully who is doing wrong and who is oppressed. One truth stands out: those who commit crimes and hide behind children and ordinary civilians are doing a great injustice. Using the weak as a shield is not bravery; it is a crime against humanity and against the principles of Islam.
If Allah sends His punishment (azaab), it is a clear sign that wrong has been committed. Allah is never unaware of the suffering of the oppressed, nor of the actions of the oppressors.
People who hide behind innocent children and the weak should remember: Arrogance is the garment of Allah alone. The Prophet ﷺ told us that Allah said:
“Pride is My cloak and greatness is My robe, and whoever competes with Me regarding either of them, I will cast him into Hell.” (Sahih Muslim)
When anyone wears this garment of arrogance—thinking they are always right, looking down on others, or justifying their wrong by using children and the weak as a shield—they must be extremely careful. Arrogance blinds the heart and leads to injustice.
The Quran repeatedly teaches the sacredness of human life, especially the lives of children and the innocent:
“Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land—it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one—it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32)
“And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:33)
“And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:31)
“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:90)
“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:135)
“And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare [in horror].” (Surah Ibrahim 14:42)
“The way [of blame] is only against those who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.” (Surah Ash-Shura 42:42)
Children are a trust from Allah. Harming them—whether directly or by using them as cover—is a serious violation of this trust. Islam teaches us to protect the weak, stand for justice, remain humble, and never cooperate in oppression.
I do not know the complex politics of this world. But one thing is clear: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not someone who desired to become a warrior for glory. He did not take pride in fighting without rules or in harming others. He sought to be loved and to care for people. His greatness lay in mercy, justice, and humility—not in arrogance or harming the weak.
If you carry a mindset that glorifies being a warrior, be careful. Allah created us to remember Him and to care for and love His creation. The rest is not what we should chase. True strength is found in controlling anger, protecting the innocent, and choosing patience over causing more harm. The greatest jihad is to fear fitnah (chaos and strife) and to abstain from violence—even if it means losing something we rightfully deserve.
The best person is the one whose heart is free of hatred. It was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “Which of the people is best?” He replied: “Everyone who is pure of heart and truthful in speech.” They asked what a pure heart meant. He said: “It is the heart that is God-fearing and pure, in which there is no sin, no injustice, no rancor (hatred or malice), and no envy.”
Never mock or disrespect other religions. For them is their religion, and for us is our religion. Allah has clearly said:
“For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.” (Surah Al-Kafirun 109:6)
The Quran also warns:
“And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge.” (Surah Al-An’am 6:108)
Respecting others while holding firmly to our own faith is part of good character and wisdom.
O Allah, You have taught me that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was a true well-wisher of all humanity, and that Your beautiful name Ar-Rahman means You show goodness and mercy even to those who do not believe in You. Through this understanding, You showed me there is no need to hate other religions.
By the blessing of this realization, I ask You: Please give good leaders to the people—leaders who will guide them to the right path and to peace. Protect all innocent children, ease the suffering of the oppressed, guide the wrongdoers or hold them accountable, remove arrogance from our hearts, and bring justice and lasting peace. Ameen.
These days many appeals for charity appear. Charity should not reach those who hide behind innocents. We must think carefully about how real stability and peace can be achieved. True peace begins in the heart. This is not about any particular religion or region. May help reach those who are truly most affected—the innocent ones who are suffering.
— A well-wisher from India
